Wholesale used clothing in Hidalgo: a buyer’s checklist
Two bales can carry different prices for good reasons. Use this checklist and a cost-per-garment example to compare what you are actually buying.

You have two quotes. One bale costs less, but you cannot tell how much work it will need or how many garments fit your store. When comparing wholesale used clothing in Hidalgo, Texas, start with three things: the same purchasing unit, a specific description of the lot, and the cost of preparing it for sale. The bale price covers only part of that calculation.
1. Put both quotes on the same basis
Whether you are comparing warehouses in Hidalgo or elsewhere in the Rio Grande Valley, write down what each offer includes before deciding which costs less. A price per bale and a price per pound are not directly comparable. Two bales are not equivalent until you know their weights and contents.
Ask for the following details in each quote. If something is missing, mark it as an open question; filling that gap with an assumption can change your decision.
- Sales unit: piece, pound, kilogram, bale or bundle, with the corresponding weight or quantity.
- Whether the quoted weight is merchandise only or includes packaging.
- Currency, minimum quantity, and any included or additional charges.
- Product category, sorting criteria, and a description of the particular lot.
- Quote validity and the terms for holding, paying for and collecting the order.
2. Match the assortment to your store
A garment can be in good condition and still be a poor fit for your stock. Its size, season or style might not match what your customers want. Before reviewing merchandise, define a usable garment for your business: a piece you can prepare and offer within your usual assortment.
Ask suppliers to explain their sorting terms. Find out which information describes the offered lot and which pictures are references. A photo of a few garments cannot tell you how many usable pieces an entire bale contains. If you can inspect a sample, record its size and remember that it does not guarantee the result for the full lot.
3. Calculate cost per usable garment
For an initial comparison, add the purchase, transport and preparation costs included in your calculation, then divide the total by the usable garments. If you do not have a count yet, work with scenarios clearly marked as estimates. An estimate is not a confirmed yield.
Here is a completely hypothetical example in US dollars. Lot A costs $360, transport costs $40, and preparation costs $50. The included cost is $450. Suppose 150 of its 180 garments meet your criteria: $450 ÷ 150 = $3.00 per usable garment.
For lot B, imagine a $410 purchase, $40 in transport and $30 in preparation: $480 total. Of 200 garments, 180 are usable: $480 ÷ 180 = about $2.67 each. Although B costs more to buy, it has a lower cost per usable piece in this example.
These figures are invented to explain the arithmetic. They are not America’s Best Clothing prices or results. If only 140 pieces in B were usable, its same total would work out to about $3.43 each. That is why the assumed count matters. This calculation does not predict sales or profit, either: you still need to account for the other expenses that apply to your business.
4. Count the work after purchase
Sorting sizes, checking details, cleaning where appropriate, tagging and taking photos all take time. Record those hours even if you do the work yourself. You can compare hours separately or assign a consistent labor value to both options, stating how you calculated it.
Consider space, too. An order that fits your budget might occupy the area you need to organize and sell stock. Before increasing the quantity, decide who will receive the lot, where you will review it, and how you will handle pieces that fall outside your assortment.
5. Confirm pickup before setting out
If you plan to collect an order in Hidalgo, confirm opening hours, the loading location, your order’s dimensions and weight, and any agreed loading assistance. Tell the supplier what vehicle you will use. Do not assume every bale fits or can be loaded in the same way.

Your final comparison checklist
Keep one sheet for each option, with the quote date and unanswered questions. That gives you a comparison you can return to without searching through separate messages. Before choosing, check that:
- I am comparing the same purchasing unit and know the total payable.
- I understand the sorting criteria and assortment described in each offer.
- I have separated confirmed details from my usable-piece estimates.
- I have considered time, preparation, space and transport.
- I understand the purchase and pickup terms, including anything still to be confirmed.
